Heat Stress Is Coming to an End — But What About 2027?

August is coming to an end, and with it, one of the most significant occupational risks of the Cypriot summer is gradually subsiding: heat stress.

In a country where heat stress will only increase year after year, job rotation, breaks, or work stoppages cannot be a long-term strategy — not only from the perspective of worker safety, but also of business continuity.

In Japan, however, the approach to heat stress has taken an interesting technological direction.

On construction sites and in other outdoor workplaces, vests and jackets with built-in fans are becoming increasingly common. Small fans continuously circulate air inside the garment, enhancing sweat evaporation and helping the body dissipate heat.

As the summer of 2026 draws to a close, perhaps now is the right time to look ahead.

Could 2027 be the year we start seeing cooling vests in Cypriot workplaces?
